Preliminary Design Considerations
Spurred by a grant from the Kendeda Fund, the Georgia Institue of Technology has decided to take on the Living Building Challenge created by the International Living Future Institute. The challenge raises the bar from sustainable to net positive for structures in the built environment, consider a range of architectural, engineering, and social aspects that determine how construction affects the local environment. Undertaken as the capstone project for the undergraduate program at the Institute, our team combed through Challenge documents to determine where problems might arise during design and construction. Many student teams were able to work on the project, drawing from many disciplines to gather ideas and suggestions for the project.
