Personal Exposure Assessment for Tansportation Modes
Emission regulations can be lacking in Low to Middle Income Countires, creating severe air pollution problems that harm public health. La Paz, Bolivia had recently installed an elevated cable car - rail transport is not feasible in the region due to the steep slopes and elevation changes. Comparing personal exposure to air pollutants was accomplished through various sensors that were taken along for the ride on the cable car, buses, taxis, microbus (roughly the size of a commercial van) and by foot. Particulate matter, black carbon, carbon monoxide, and ambient atmospheric conditions were measured along with various gaseous nitrogen compounds.
