3D Illustration of Engineering Principles
This interactive application illustrates the principle of hydraulic grade - an important design aspect that is more informative than pressure. Using Mean Sea Level as a fixed datum, the Hydraulic Grade at a point in the system represents the total head available to the fluid. Pressure at this point is derived from the hydraulic grade and ground elevation, and can be visualized in the application as the distance between the ground surface and the grade mesh adjusted by a conversion factor. This concept is essential in fluids engineering, both for pressure and gravity applications.
